Pineapple contains an enzyme that breaks down proteins, making your mouth tingle.

Why it is true

Bromelain digests the proteins in the mucous membranes of your mouth while you chew. It is the only well-known fruit that contains this enzyme in sufficient quantities to cause a mild burning or tingling sensation when eaten.
