A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. This page lists every category we use. Our privacy policy covers the wider picture.
Essential — always on
These make the site usable and cannot be switched off. They store no identifier and follow you nowhere.
- Your cookie choice. So the banner does not ask again on every page.
- Your language. So you land on the right version next time.
- Quiz progress and score. Kept in your browser's local storage; never sent to us.
Measurement — off until you accept
If you accept, Google Analytics counts visits and tells us which pages are actually read. That is what tells us which subjects deserve more facts. We use it with IP anonymisation and without advertising features.
Advertising — off until you accept
If you accept, Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies to choose which ads you see and to limit how often the same ad is repeated.
Refusing does not remove the ads. It means the ads are chosen from the content of the page you are reading rather than from your browsing history, which is generally less relevant and earns the site less — but it is entirely your choice and the site works identically.
Changing your mind
The "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page reopens the banner. Your new choice applies immediately and replaces the previous one.
You can also delete cookies directly in your browser:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
- Safari: Settings → Privacy
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Deleting them removes your saved language and quiz scores too, since those live in the same place.
