Apples float in water because about 25 per cent of their volume is air.
Why it is true
Apples have air spaces between the cells of their tissue, especially near the core. These spaces make the average density of the fruit lower than that of water. That is why an apple floats. Other fruits, such as pears and grapes, sink.
