Why it is true
It is estimated that between 50 and 100 electrical discharges occur per second worldwide, adding up to about 8 million per day. Most happen over the oceans or in remote regions, far from any observer. Each lightning bolt heats the surrounding air to about 30,000 degrees Celsius.
