The aurora borealis is a purely visual phenomenon and does not emit any sound.
Why it is true
Auroras can emit sounds, although faint. Finnish scientists have identified that the sounds, described as crackles or pops, are produced at about 70 to 100 metres altitude and are associated with geomagnetic storms. Many people observing auroras report hearing these sounds on calm nights.
