The wood frog survives winter by freezing completely and coming back to life in spring.
Why it is true
The wood frog, common in the northern United States and Canada, withstands temperatures of minus 4 degrees Celsius. About 65 per cent of the water in its body freezes and its heart stops beating. In spring, it thaws from the inside out and resumes vital functions.
