Why it is true
Volcanic lightning, also called dirty thunderstorms, occurs in many volcanic eruptions around the world. It is caused by friction between ash and gases that creates electrical charges. It can be seen on volcanoes such as Etna, Sakurajima and Eyjafjallajokull.
