The summit of Chimborazo in Ecuador is the point on Earth's surface farthest from the planet's centre.
Why it is true
Earth is not a perfect sphere, as it is flattened at the poles and wider at the equator. Chimborazo is near the equator and its summit exceeds Everest in distance to the centre, even though it is lower in altitude.
