The shortest war in history lasted only 38 minutes, between the United Kingdom and Zanzibar.
Why it is true
On 27 August 1896, when the new sultan of Zanzibar took power without British approval, the Royal Navy bombarded the palace. A ceasefire was declared 38 minutes later, with about 500 casualties on one side and only one wounded on the other.
