The largest known living organism is a fungus that covers nearly nine square kilometres in Oregon.
Why it is true
The fungus Armillaria ostoyae, known as the honey mushroom, spreads through the Malheur National Forest via an underground network of mycelia. It is estimated to be over two thousand years old and weighs hundreds of tonnes.
