The human nose can distinguish more than one trillion different odours.
Why it is true
For decades it was thought that the human nose could only distinguish about 10,000 odours. A 2014 study published in the journal Science showed that the number is much higher. Researchers calculated that the human olfactory system can discriminate more than one trillion different combinations of odour molecules.
