The first webcam in history was created to monitor a coffee pot at the University of Cambridge.
Why it is true
In 1991, researchers at the Cambridge computing laboratory installed a camera that took three pictures per minute of the coffee pot in the common room. The idea was to avoid useless trips when the coffee was empty, and it was only in 1993 that the transmission became accessible on the Internet.
