Why it is true
Mercury completes one rotation on its axis in about 59 Earth days, but one orbit around the Sun in only 88 Earth days. Therefore, a solar day on Mercury (from sunrise to sunrise) lasts about 176 Earth days, that is, two Mercurian years.
